Summary0004555: Giant Skelebot Boss: bit stupid
DescriptionAt the moment, the giant skelebots MOSTLY just run back and forth over and over. The resultant atmosphere of these battles is one of having stumbled upon an enormous robotic keep fit enthusiast determined to run until their atomic batteries burn out. They treat you rather like you might expect someone whose first and only commitment in life is to running: they'll shoot at you if they see you, but they certainly won't break their stride for you!

They'd make for a far more exciting boss fight if they weren't just incessantly running away, then toward, then away, then toward, then away, then toward, then away, pause, then toward, then away, then toward, then aw...

I'm not really sure what you're proposing. If they just chase you, then the fight is really something that doesn't play out as well (I've tried it).

What about if they hang back and launch fireballs for a couple of minutes, then leg it at you full speed and kick you, then retreat to half as far away, then shoot at you for a couple more minutes...

...then if you upset them whilst they're just launching fireballs - doing over a certain amount of damage, running within a certain range, something - they might run about for a bit like a mad person...

...and they might try to maintain a certain distance for a while, or jump at you or over you...

...basically, I'm proposing a little variety to their pattern.

Okay, that's a lot more clear -- thanks. I think that's a great idea.

Dunno, the Compulsive-Calisthenics-Collosus has a very hitchikerian feel ;)

Running with that idea, you could always add a 'rage mode' to the Skelebots as well.
Basically entailing that once you reduce them to a certain percentage of health, they throw caution to the wind, attempting to dispatch you with one last mad dash to melee you to death, or they could always attempt to self-destruct in your face.
It would add an element of strategy and caution to the fight, saving a good chunk of magic points and your more powerful magic draining spells to finish it off from a distance.

Skelebots need excercise too, remove the running and soon we'll be facing off against a Skelebot while it slouches on the couch watching reruns of friends on the telly while eating pizza.

Don't say I didn't warn any of you.

(but yeah this is a good idea.)

Yeah, some varied patterns would be cool. Even simple stuff, like them occasionally giving a warning before running a much higher speed, or launching 3-5 fireballs in certain situations. Or a special warning; if they're standing still, they're up to no good! And so on. :D

Ever fight 'Menace' in Castlevania? He's got some good attack patterns. I'm not advocating 'copy Castlevania', but maybe a good brainstorm reference for giant, humanoid boss battles?
