Summary0008975: Bats and Sea Worms can ignore their own listed detection range after detecting you once.
DescriptionPutting aside the fact that bats are suppose to be blind, I can clearly see the line that estimates their detect range (using a Cloak of Shadows of -50% Detectability), which turns red when I've officially been detected. However for bats, they ignore that all, being way across the room, their line being blue, and just make a beeline for me wherever I am. I teleport way the way up to the top of the room, they follow. I tested this on multiple bat types.

Maybe this is because they're the only enemy type that "attacks" by going STRAIGHT for you? Or maybe the line's much shorter than it should be.

Note: Sea Worms do this also. And I think it's only when they first detect you, afterwhich even if you're well outside of their listed detect range, they'll still go DIRECTLY after you.

You mentioned the sea worms only do this when they've detected you once (but keep pursuing if you leave detection range). Is that also the case with the bats or do the bats beeline you even having never detected you?

I did some testing and it seems bats follow the exact same attack pattern as Sea Worms, thus the two have the exact same bug -- they will only ignore their detection range if they've detected you at least once (and exiting/re-entering the room resets this behavior). The reason I thought bats could always ignore it was because of their slightly erratic patrol patterns, super-fast speed, and how they blend the background.

But yeah, I'm guessing it's a bug with "melee-only monsters", that they don't re-check for proper detection once the game tells them to make that beeline for the player after initial detection.

I edited the bug title to reflect this.

I've noticed this for most monsters, actually - once they "see" (detect) you initially, their detection-line becomes a lot bigger. I thought the logic was "they're aware of you now, so they're more vigilant than they were before seeing you at all."
But is that not supposed to be happening?

That might be, however in this case their detection line stays blue and well out of range when they make that beeline for you.
