Summary | 0014914: New race combat AI flaws
Description | I've noticed a number of problems with the Race Combat AI in 1.012. 1. Opportunistic Attacks seem to be triggered whenever the AI has either more ground power or more space power. However, you need more space power to get anywhere, regardless of your 5 billion ground power. 2. Opportunistic Attacks don't take into account armada production. The Acutians were constantly declaring war on the Burlusts because they didn't have any fleets. The Acutians would send their 1 fleet over, the Burlusts would finish building a fleet, they both would die. War would end, then start again as the Acutians sensed weakness. 3. The AI constantly declares opportunistic attacks, even when it is already under attack by other larger races. 4. Wars seem to end after the capture of a single planet, regardless of how the two races feel about each other or the state of fleets sizes. 5. Attacks of Honor - The Burlusts wipe out the Thoraxians. The Skylaxians declare a War of Honor and take over the Thoraxian homeworld (via blasting everything on the surface). That's not what I'd consider a "war of honor". However, I could see it being a war of retribution rather than a rescue. 6. Outpost raiding. After a short War of Honor, the Skylaxians then decide to go kill all 10 of the Acutians Outposts, even though their relations are neutral. 7. Skylaxians don't bother to attack anyway, even if they have the galaxy outnumbered (fleet size) 20:1. They also don't bother to attack with those same odds and only a Fear Empire Burlust remaining in the system. 8. Burlust can start a war due to Burlust Turmoil, even in observer mode.

Thanks! Regarding 1, 2, and 3: * Races will no longer attack critically-weak planets, or do attacks of opportunity, if they are already involved in a war, or if their number of armadas is too low to also defend their own planets at the same time. Regarding 4, that is correct -- a war is technically just an attack on a planet. After that, they think about some things and then may continue fighting or not. Regarding 5, the honor wars are about a race attacking someone who is attacking their ally. After the war starts for that reason, then it's just a regular war. Since the ally that died is gone, the response was appropriate. For 6: * Non-pirate fleets will now never attack outposts of races that they have -10 or higher attitude towards. For 7, I'd need a savegame. Regarding 8, that is the expected behavior, as any time a warlord dies that happens; the tooltip was previously misleading. That said, internal wars (as of the next version) won't cause this now. |
