Summary0016487: Gui Enhancements
DescriptionThe following is a list of changes to the main screen GUI that I think would be nice to have.

0. I really like how the current population display is formatted. I like the conclusion being at the top, followed by a newline, followed by the breakdown of that information. I would like this applied to all of the items. There is currently a mix of tooltips. Some of them are sentences (e.g., This city's births per turn: 50), some of them are lists (e.g., City Population: 2500).

0.5. I also really like the click for details window, but I'd like a break down not only of the mechanics, but of the actual make up as well (same information as on the tooltip). I'd also like to see the click to see detailed explanation of mechanics for all of the items.

1. Maximum population: I'd like it broken down with each of the requirements. So
Current Maximum: 500

Current Housing Available: 700
Current Meals Available: 900
Current Jobs Available: 500 **** (some indication that this is holding you back) (of course now that the population isn't bound by jobs...)
Current Idle Population Entertainment: 125

Max with full employment and after all buildings are finished construction.
Max Housing Available: 700
Max Meals Available: 900
Max Jobs Available: 500 **** (some indication that this is holding you back, color symbols, both, etc) (of course now that the population isn't bound by jobs...)
Max Idle Population Entertainment: 200

2. Jobs
Current unfilled Jobs: 400

Current Total Jobs: 1500
Current Filled Jobs: 1100
Current Citizen Entertainment: 150

Future Jobs provided by buildings under construction: 100

3. Wounded Citizens tool-tip: Add people with diseases cured per turn

4. Meals Produced
Meals have a problem with labelling. Meals are the thing your people eat. However, Meals Possible is the term used to refer to Restaurant spaces. This leads to confusion where people think they need Meals and not Restaurants and vice versa. Perhaps switch to something like: Dining, Canteen Space, Available Eateries, Mess Space?

Meals Produced: 900

Meal = Crops + Water + Meal (do Burlusts have water omitted from their tooltip is that only for AI?)
Crops produced: 1000
Water available: 1200
Mess Space Available: 900 ****

5. Empty Housing
Unoccupied Housing: 300

Occupied Housing: 400
Available Housing: 700
Housing under construction: 200

6. Crops add crops production under construction.

7. Water
Unused Water

Water used for Meals
Water used by buildings
Total Water used

Additional Water production under construction
Additional Water consumption of buildings under production
Unused water after all construction is completed (assuming no population change)

8. Construction
The line about simultaneous construction is confusing.
Do you mean that each building under construction costs an extra 500 construction power? Actually, I don't know if this adds anything besides minor variance to large construction projects. I would suggest dropping it to simplify the process.

9. Trash
When I look at trash I want to know how long until I need to deal with it. So perhaps have the amount of excess trash disposal available per turn should be the main gui number? Or the number of turns before I run out of space in my dumps? Actually trash level could be indicated by a exclamation points after the number. Most of them time trash isn't a big deal until suddenly everyone dies and I have 10 million trash to deal with, so the gui entry should reflect that. As it stands now, I mouse over it every turn to see how much excess trash disposal I have.

10. Bodies
Same points as applied to trash.

For 0.878 (this is broader than any one mantis issue, but it all goes together) :

=== Top Bar HUD Overhaul ===

* Thanks to jerith, ptarth, iozay, Sounds, mooncows, Billick, kasnavada, tbrass, Mick, Elijah, YoukaiCountry, GarathJJ, SugeBearX, and others for inspiring these changes.

* The Jobs, Housing, Meals, Crops, and Water sections:
** Now display as a percent of how much you have relative to how much you need for your planned (current + disabled + under construction) jobs/population.
** Have reworked logic for whether they show up grayed-out, white, or red.
** Have totally reworked tooltips noting how much is disabled and under construction and various other things.
** Can now be clicked to bring up a "ledger" window showing the buildings impacting the relevant number(s).

* The Repairs section now also has a click-for-ledger behavior.

* The Trash and Graves sections now display the number of turns until you're expected to run out of dumps/graves, or "---" if you're not having a net filling at all, or "CAP!" if you're already at cap and still producing more than is consumed.
** And if they're <= 5 turns to cap, or capped, they flash red.
** The graves count against an estimated number of new bodies to expect next turn, based on recent turns (note that this recent turn data isn't in old saves, so it can take a bit for this to catch up there).

* The Max Population tooltip now lists the individual limiting factors (housing, meals, crops, water) and which of them are actually holding the number down.

Thanks :)
